What you don't know IS hurting you, your children, grandchildren and even your pets.

The industries profiting from health issues, environmental damage, and economic instability don't want you asking questions - or finding answers to questions you didn't know to ask. The information in this visitor-funded web site breaks down the connections between petrochemicals, corporate interests, and the entire profit-from-harm business plan. Read, think, and if it makes sense, share it. The more people who see the bigger picture, the harder it becomes to ignore.

You walk into a house and breathe in what smells like a botanical orgasm wrapped in a synthetic sweater. Most people think: "Ooh, clean!" But what you're actually inhaling is a chemical cocktail cooked up in a corporate lab, designed to bypass your brain's warning system by overriding your limbic response with fake floral deception.

What is REALLY in these synthetic concoctions?

Here's a short list of what they don't put on the label - because they're legally allowed to hide hundreds of chemicals behind the word "fragrance":

- Phthalates: Used to make scents stick. In many studies, phthalates have been shown to cause asthma, reduce semen quality and higher levels of phthalate exposure is associated with increased non-alcoholic fatter liver disease. Also an endocrine disruptor. An endocrine disruptor is a chemical that interferes with the body's hormone system (the endocrine system). These substances can mimic, block, or alter natural hormones, affecting how organs grow, develop, or function. Even tiny amounts can cause problems with reproduction, growth, metabolism, or mood.

- Benzenes: Known to cause leukemia. Because who doesn't want to increase their risk of leukemia every time they inhale?

- Formaldehyde: Carcinogen used to preserve corpses. Well, at least these things help you get a jump on your mortician services. Formaldehyde exposure will also help speed you along to your visit with your mortician, because while you're still alive, formaldehyde exposure contributes to: decreased pulmonary function, asthma prevalence and degree of control, as well as additional allergic conditions in children. It is also carcinogenic to humans by inhalation. Higher exposures cause: nasopharyngeal cancer, sinonasal cancer, and myeloid leukemia.

- Acetaldehyde: Another probable carcinogen. Smells great and your oncologist will thank you for your contribution to growing their customer base.

- Limonene: Sounds natural, right? It is... until it reacts with indoor ozone and morphs into formaldehyde.

And these are just the known toxic ingredients. The "proprietary fragrance blend" can include neurotoxins, allergens, respiratory irritants, and hormone disruptors. But that's all well and good if it smells like cinnamon buns or blueberries, right?

The synthetic chemicals in air fresheners aren't just respiratory irritants, they are neurotoxic. Children, especially those with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) or sensory sensitivities, are at much greater risk due to their developing nervous systems and thinner blood-brain barriers.

Volitale organic compounds (VOCs) may cause irritation to the eyes, nose and throat, headaches, nausea, cancer as well as "central nervous system symptoms such as fatigue, memory loss, and confusion."

In households with children, prenatal and early-life exposure to phthalates commonly found in air fresheners associated with impairment of brain development resulting in poorer cognitive performance and behavioral problems. Studies have found that children exposed to indoor air fresheners and cleaning products had higher risks of neurodevelopmental delays.

Household air fresheners pose special risks for Autistic children who often exhibit heightened sensory sensitivities and exposure to strong synthetic fragrances can lead to increased meltdowns, sleep disruption, increased irritability and worsening of communication and processing skills. Simply removing the synthetic fragrances often leads to better sleep, improved focus, and reduced anxiety.

Neurological risks also include cognitive decline. Studies have found that long term exposure to VOCs in products such as household air fresheners is associated with reduced cognitive function in older adults. VOCs such as benzene and touened are linked to increased brain inflammation and neuronal damage which are major contributing factors in Alzheimer's and dementia.

Pets are not excluded from harms caused by exposure. Often exhibiting behavior problems, respiratory issues, and long term exposure can lead to liver and kidney damage as well as increased cancer risks.

Just another set of toxic products designed to: Sicken, sell, repeat

These companies don't just make air fresheners that turn your home into a custom gas chamber. They also sell cleaning supplies, laundry detergents, disinfectants, personal care products - all swimming in the same chemical soups. Then - like magic - the same parent companies or their investment partners profit from the pharmaceuticals, inhalers and cancer treatments. And never tell you to stop poisoning yourself ;o)

The Brainwashing Runs Deep

People will defend their scented plug-ins, candles, sprays, and reed diffusers like they are life-saving medical devices. "But my house smells so clean!" they say, while coughing, complaining of migraines, sucking on inhalers, and wonder why they keep forgetting where they put their car keys for their next visit to the pharmacey to pick up another prescription.

Maybe try something different

- set out a dish of baking soda. Baking soda neutralizes odors.

- Make a potty room spray with vinegar and vanilla extract or go wild with essential oils. Smell great, non-toxic, enjoy.

- Simmer a pot of citrus peels, cloves, rosemary, or cinnamon - or any mix that suits your fancy on the stove.

- Try essential oil diffusers, but only REAL essential oils, not something that says "fragrance". Check out your local natural store for ideas.

- And then there's always: open a window to exchange the air in your home with fresh air from outside.

- If you want your home to smell like blueberry pie or cinnamon buns, try using a cookbook...

That fake "fresh" scent is a lie wrapped in a profit motive. Toxic synthetic household air fresheners don't just mask odors: they contaminate your air, confuse your senses, increase risks of cancers, and compromise your health in more ways than they have varieties of fragrances.

If people want to be healthy, they have to start by NOT poisoning themselves.
