Check out this quick history lesson: When Columbus would sail the mighty ocean, blah, blah, he would drop anchor and learn about the natives. He would bring them gifts and be sooooo very 'giving' to gain their trust and admiration. When he would come back again, the natives were quite willing to happily and eagerly accept the invitation to go to the ship - where, of course, they were locked in cages and sold as slaves in other countries. Quite the effective marketing strategy.
For those who hunt, we know that feeding (giving) wild animals, such as deer or bears, is illegal. Why? Because the animal grows trust and will walk right up to be shot. That's not exactly sportsman-like, right?
Okay, with all that in mind, remember that I totally agree that corporations should give back to society to empower consumers and help improve the health and economy in the best interest of all. J&J goes into a new market with numerous goods, such as baby shampoo, lotions and drugs and somehow, the consumers end up being sicker than they were before J&J entered the area. It's such a good thing that J&J has a drug for that, and diagnostic equipment and so on, to help the 'improving' economy grow in that area - soooo concerned about the health of the people who buy their toxic products and life-saving medications that have side effects that require, well, more life-saving medications to save the lives of the consumers from the side effects of the original life-saving medications. I say, um, geeze, bullshit (sorry, couldn't help myself).

Bill Weldon summed it up quite well APEC Summit in Hawaii in November of 2011:
"The Asia Pacific regions is important to Johnson & Johnson and to many U.S. businesses because it represents a large and growing part of the global economy. If you think about it, the 21-member economies comprise 2.7 billion consumers, account for 44 percent of the world trade, represent 55 percent of global economic output, includes six of America’s 10 largest trading partners, and represent the fastest-growing region in the world.
The people of the APEC region have important non-met medical needs that our products and services can help meet. These economies are aging and the incidents of most chronic diseases rises with age. APEC countries are also experiencing a growing middle class and lifestyle changes that are linked to rising rates of non-communicable disease."

Wait, did I see that right? Um, well, after getting our products in there (such as J&J 'No More Tears' - but plenty of asthma and cancer baby shampoo), the people are, well, experiencing "rising rates of non-communicable disease." ? Nah - really?
Well, when you can poison people with products that you so willingly 'gave' - you have gained their trust, and now can give them 'life-saving' medications to save their lives, and, of course, more 'life-saving' medications to deal with the side effects of the 'life-saving' medications and so on....
Remember, J&J is still 'giving' mothers shampoo to use on their infants in the U.S. that contains 200 times the EPA safe exposure limit of formaldehyde - a *known* carcinogen - to use on their babies as they leave the hospital after delivery. And the mothers, quite trustingly, wash their own babies in a carcinogen - with trust for the 'respected' J&J brand.
